The changes were committed yesterday in changeset 61ee38d778bf. Additionally I set the milestone for this bug report to 2019.0 beta1. So it won't be in older versions.

The enhanced window obscures the *context* of the control point, which is crucial during this process. Feature request: option to turn OFF the contrast enhanced, zoomed, square.
