I used autopano-sift and autopano-sift-c on up to 45 10MP pictures with 4-6MB each. So far it worked quite well under my WinXP SP2 and amd64 debian system, each equipped with 4 GB RAM. But I used cropped images down to 1300 and 20 control points - which is quite memory hungry.
