The LZW compression algorithm is lossless, so you are not losing any
information by using it rather than uncompressed TIFFs. In my experience,
compressed TIFFs are longer to process. So that I use compressed TIFFs only
for storage, not for working. This of course may depend on the software you
use. And maybe I should check again, the situation could have changed.
