The one ear only thing is common. Like you I sense it it one ear only,
or to be more accurate from one side only, the left. If you drive 15
miles and the sound goes, it's only temporary. If you were to remain
there a day or two, it will 'find' you. To all intents and purposes
the symptoms are that of tinnitus, but as you know it's not.
