Sorry to hear of your shock introduction to the pesky Hum, Carol.
It seems to have hit pretty hard from the start.
It can stop or reduce for no apparent reason, though- but in my
experience rarely goes totally for very long- say some weeks.
Have you any Electricity Substations or lower voltage Transformers
nearby? - it might be worth checking with your suppliers if any
changes have occurred recently.

I think once cavity wall insulation goes in- that's pretty well it!
It's very interesting that you tied this start up of Hum with the
event of its installation.
Many people have commented here, and elsewhere, on building
dimension / construction elements involved in hum issues.
Many refer to pointy roofs, concrete partitions and indoor/outdoor
transitions causing or ceasing hum pickups.
No reason why it's not a valid trigger on this basis- it could well
have affected natural resonance of the house walls.
This is the first time CW Ins. has been flagged for me- and as it is a
very widespread procedure -should hopefully show up in the figures.
We are too small a group here to reflect this specific trigger
directly I suspect, but I will look into the links on line, if any.
