I'm looking into body temps as a way of gauging metabolic rates in myself. Waking in a sweat normally implies an infection,as you know. Get a digital thermometer and take it when you wake- it should be low after some hours sleep, but don't drink hot or cold before taking temp. See what it is later in the day and you can expect a 1+ deg F rise typically, again under steady conditions, not a bath or heavy exercise/ food or drink. Waking at 4am is well reported for hum- I've had the trait a few years now, though the hum is steady low level currently, for me. I'll put a pic from a useful site on here to give a guide. [Typical patterns-NB: Average values in this example]
