Some years ago as a result of publicity by the BBC and the Bristol Evening
Post, around 200 people wrote of their experiences to the Bristol Hum
Association. The addresses were plotted on a map in the hope of locating a
source and although no source was found Mr Bob Lewis astutely observed that the
majority of replies came from people living on the hills and high ground which
surrounds the City of Bristol. Very few replies came from the low lying areas
and none from the city centre. At the time there was no means to verify these
observations but measurements have now been made in various parts of the city
which confirm this. I take this opportunity to pay tribute to the late Mr Lewis
for his unstinting efforts to help those affected by the Hum, for his
organising of public meetings, endless badgering of the media and the numerous
battles he undertook with the authorities, even at the risk of imprisonment.

A valiant gentleman who is sadly missed today.
