Thank you very much for all the map markings, as well as for the details
entered. The map is building on three continents now. As for the data
collection survey, enter as little or as much information as you choose.
The anonymous data will be stored in a public read-only MySQL database.
If the survey doesn't interest you, then I completely understand. As for
using your Google or Hotmail account for mapping, some users may want to
create another Google account for that sole purpose. You can remain
completely anonymous if you wish. I choose to attach my name to my
mappings, and when I was there, and sometimes other observations.
What about false or inaccurate map markings and petty vandalism? A problem,
but a manageable one. It's really important to visit sites marked by other
Sensors ("Hearers"). If you visit another site and don't hear it, then make
a plot there and make it clear in your heading and info that you can't hear
it there. Please note the time, daylight levels, and weather, and anything
else notable. If the large majority of Hearers cannot hear it in a certain
location, that site becomes questionable, if not "quiet". If somebody tries
to sabotage the data, sufficient numbers other Hearers can nullify those
attempts. Check in every now and then to make a new marking and take note
if any of your mappings have been deleted. If so, please put them back.
I'll be making daily backups so that we can identify where sites are being
deleted or wrongly added.
Soon I'll be switching over to thehum.info, but for now we can use:
thehum.jimdo.com
Thank you
Glen
