My last experiment to control the Hum using a mains powered electric fan ended in failure. I have since tried the following experiment using a simple square wave generator with a frequency of 1 to 100 cycles per second. The output was fed into a 3 inch pillow speaker and the amplitude adjusted to be approximately the same level as the perceived Hum.
At low frequencies the output from the speaker resembled the ticking of a clock, the sound was not unpleasant but it did not block the Hum Increasing the frequency produced some strange effects like the sound of people talking very softly, and sometimes a hint of music playing. However, the experiment did not block the Hum or produce a noise conducive to sleep. I emphases that these were personal observations and should in no way deter others from experimenting to control the nocuous Hum -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Hum Sufferers" group.
