NoIse countermeasures...

All I can add is that soft foam earplugs work best, as they fill the ear 
cavity as well as plug the ear. That is important. You can buy them in 
Pound shops, they are usually orange in colour, and just cut to size.

Also you need white noise going on in your bedroom at night, either a radio 
going, or a fan, or one of these sound making machines, that have choice of 
sound, I have mine if it gets really bad, and set it to 'beach wave' sounds.
