I believe the inner ear crystals play a large part in hearing the hum. I'm currently trying the Epley maneuver to see if I can move the crystals around a bit. Two nights ago it worked! I had a whole night of silence, after 5 months of constant hum. Sadly, it came back the next day, but I'm not giving up on trying to affect those crystals!
