Hi, I have been astounded at the ignorance or other causes for the UPA government's mad rush into nuclear power plants. That they roped in the former president to do some selling of nuke plant at Kundankulam, was comic. Kalam, instead of explaining how issues of emissions and dangers of nuke disasters would be avoided by the plant's technology, merely said that he is satisfied with its safety. It is incomprehensible that one who prides himself, as a scientist, and is thought of as such by many people, should come out with the conclusion that the plant is safe, by a casual one-day visit and listening to some presentations. The least he could have suggested was a detailed study by experts and a transparent public debate on all aspects. Instead he advised the government that people there could be induced to call off their agitation by splurging money on projects in the locality costing about Rs. 2000/- Crores. Everyone knows what would happen to such money thrown at agitating public. Here is an article written by me that appeared in 'Deccan Herald' on page 11.
