Trade Union members all over NOIDA were targeted, while innocent workers were also picked up at random. They have been in jail ever since, denied bail, in spite of the fact that the police videos of the event presented before the Sessions Judge fail to show the presence of the arrested workers. The families of the jailed workers are in great distress and hardship.* *Similarly, the Maruti workers of Manesar continue their struggle, defying all odds, with the Government and the Maruti management banded together against them. * *And all over Delhi-NCR, workers' hard-won rights are under assault, but workers are fighting back, in spite of the terror and repression unleashed to intimidate them. In the Wazirpur Industrial Area, workers of the hot rolling mills have been on strike, braving repression. In the central university campus of JNU, workers' minimum wages are being routinely violated. When workers and students struggle to demand implementation of minimum wage laws, the contractors refuse to work! Everywhere, the exploiters threaten to pull out and 'strike' unless their right to violate labour laws is upheld! In the LRS TB Hospital at Mehrauli, contract workers went on strike to protest non-payment of wages by the contractor, and as a result, 8 leading workers were not taken back on work. The hospital workers continue to struggle.** * * * *AICCTU invites you to a Convention on 23 April at GPF, 5 pm, in solidarity with the ongoing workers' struggles in the Delhi-NCR region. * * * *Workers in NOIDA are being punished for the remarkable success of the all-India Strike, with their democratic rights under an all-out assault by the police and administration, under pressure from the industrialists' lobby. They are in urgent need of solidarity and support. Their families require funds for their survival. In the face of intimidation, a campaign for the release of the workers is underway – those interested in joining the campaign may contact us (numbers given below). To break the atmosphere of fear imposed on NOIDA's workers, we need to make our presence felt in NOIDA, and ensure that our voices are heard by the NOIDA administration and the UP Government. **Therefore, we also appeal to you to join the PROTEST MARCH to the Greater NOIDA DM's Office at Surajpur on 25 April, at 12 noon. (Surajpur is about 35 kms from Delhi, so those of you who can come by car are requested to offer to ferry others also from Delhi!) * *AICCTU* *Contact Nos: 9868033425, 9868661628, 9560756628 * * * * * **** * * * * * * * * * * -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "humanrights movement" group.
