Peoples Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR)
An Appeal for Funds
The issue of Death Penalty and executions has entered a critical phase in
India. While the executions had been more or less on hold for the past two
decades, the issue has more recently become a political one in India’s
parliamentary politics. Two persons were executed in the last year and the
government advise to the President to reject mercy has opened the gates for the
execution of 23 more persons. The executions of seven are currently stayed in
different courts; and one can be executed at any time. The Supreme Court has
recently concluded hearing a matter of 15 of these convicts and the judgement
is awaited.

This judgement is expected in January and it might open the doors for multiple
executions. Such an outcome would vastly destroy the environment of “no
execution” that has been built over the decades.

The Coordination of Democratic Rights Organisations (CDRO), is in the process
of organising an All India Convention Against Death Penalty on 1st February
2014 at Delhi. The day-long Convention will be held at the Auditorium of the
Rajendra Bhawan, opposite Gandhi Peace Foundation, Delhi. The convention will
be followed by a Rally. As a constituent member of the CDRO and as the local
host, a good part of the responsibility is on the PUDR.

We appeal to all our friends and supporters for financial help for making
arrangements for all the things required for the convention.
PUDR does not accept foreign funds and also individual contribution should not
be more than Rs. 3000.  You can contribute in cash or issue a cheque in the
name of People’s Union for Democratic Rights, Delhi and post it to the address
