Cow Slaughter and beef eating have been used by communal forces to polarize
the society. Right from the colonial period Cow has been regularly used by
communal forces for boosting their agenda. Lately many states have brought
in legislation where storage of beef and its consumption is regarded as
illegal. There are regulations in different states which prohibit cow
slaughter. The issues related to beef eating in India have been well
investigated by various scholars. This book is a compilation of articles by
various scholars-activists who have thrown light on the issue. The core
part of the book is the scholarly essay by Historian Prof. D.N. Jha who has
done extensive work on the Ancient Indian history, and that on beef eating
in particular. The book aims to dispel various prevalent myths which go on
to fuel the divisive tendencies in society.
