1. In the supported list in hwloc.doxy, it says:

*FreeBSD

Is the "*" a typo, or is it supposed to indicate any BSD? (or something else?)

2. In lstopo.1, the colors description says:

.TP
White
The CPU is allowed but not in the current CPU binding mask.
.TP
Red
The CPU is not allowed.

Who/what allows or disallows a CPU? Is this a reference to Linux cpuset
functionality? I.e., the CPU is online, but the OS won't let you bind to it?
(do other OS's have similar kind of restrictions to Linux's cpuset
functionality?)
