Well, five minutes after my post I figured it out.
Controller [foo] for the Pattern On/Off is a toggle. I kept turning Synth
1 off at the beginning of the pattern! An inelegant solution was to put
another switch at the last tick of the phrase, but then I had to make sure
the pattern was OFF initially, or I would invert the toggle.
A more elegant solution is to set the volume at the beginning of the
phrase. A muted phrase is sent a zero.
