<lurk mode off> <panic mode on>
I've had my RM1x for almost six months now, during that time it has served
me almost without fail. Recently, it has developed an alarming tendency
to lock up whenever I load a pattern from disk. I noticed this two days
ago when I dl'd the two pattern sets Leon Mols posted oin his site. When
I attempted ot load them, the RM1x said "Illegal File" and refused to load
them. I downloaded the uncompressed versions from the .nl site, not that
I think it makes any difference. I downloaded a bunch of patterns from
Mark Arber's site today, and tried to load one of the .r1a files. Again,
"Illegal File" I then tried to load one of the .r1ps. It loaded fine,
but locked up when I tried to exit the Disk menu.
Worse still, when I rebooted it, it locked up right after the "RM1x"
screen, never getting to the main menu. I was forced to reboot again, and
wipe the user memory (by hitting Pat. + Pat. Chain + Util. keys).
What I have deduced, from trail and error is that the machine will still
load patters it wrote (ones I wrote, or loaded previously and then
resaved), but it will not load any patterns I have downloaded (made on
another RM1x). I have no explination for this.
Stranger still, it's luckup behavior is not consistent. Sometimes it
locks up while reading off the disk just as the progress bar gets to the
end. Other times it gets past that part, and doesn't lock up until I try
to exit the disk submenu. Twice now it has done this and caused all the
LEDs to blink eratically, which is visually impressive, but very
worrisome.
I'm going to assume that other people have been able to load these
patterns without incident. I am very concerned by this problem and I'm
nto exactly sure what to do about it. Any suggestions?
Oh, what is the latest ROM version? I have Main 1.12 and CPU 1.01
