Hi list,

How do I remove a measure from the beginning of a phrase? With "Split
phrase", it is possible to chop off a measure at the end (by setting
target phrase to OFF). I would expect that when target = source, "Split"
leaves only the part after the split point, effectively removing the
first part. This would be a bit awkward, but at least consistent, but
alas! - it doesn't work that way.
A possible workaround is to "Copy Event" first, shifting everything
towards the beginning, and then "Split" to chop off the end, but this is
just what it is - a workaround for something that should be a trivial
operation. Besides, there doesn't seem to be any job which inserts
measures (in SONG mode - yes, but not in PATTERN). Any ideas?

<rant> Does anybody else find it annoying that "Split" and other
time-based jobs (Copy Event, etc) allow you to specify measures greater
than the phrase length, and give you "Illegal measure" when you do (I
mean F4-"Do!" :-)
A good UI simply does not allow the user to enter illegal values. A bad
UI allows everything, and then hits the user in the head with a message
box. Do you remember these ancient Windows programs that popped a
message "Select something first" when there was no selection? Nowadays,
we've come to expect that corresponding menu items should be disabled.

Now, if the maximum for "measure" parameter was equal to phrase length,
it would not only make life easier. It would also convey useful
information - how long the phrase is, and how long the resulting
phrase(s) will be.
</rant>

And by the way, is there ANY screen that shows how long a phrase is? The
only way I've found so far is increasing length until "<" sign changes
to "|". But this seems REALLY stupid :-)

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I need to get it off the chest.
Am I missing something obvious, or is RM1X missing something obvious?
:-)
Your feedback is appreciated.

Have a nice day,
Boris.
