I'm having a hard enough time with learning my MIDI gear, and I'm afraid
that learning Logic will sink me into the ground! I've only been playing in
my own studio for three months (prior to this, I'd go to a friend's studio
and write using his K2000, Ensoniq, Roland JP8080, and Cakewalk). I sold a
domain name I had registered last year for a few thousand dollars, so I
shopped around for the lowest prices, and bought:

[New]
Yamaha RM1x
Yamaha A3000 (blowout price + 128MB and Expansion Board)
Nord Lead 2 Synth
Waldorf Microwave XT (Rack)
(2) MIDI Solutions Professioanl Series MIDI Merger - M8 INPUT merger, T8
OUTPUT merger
T.C. Electronics M-One
Mackie 1402 (I already have a 1202, so I use both now)
Digitech Vocalist VR (great for sampling my own harmonies and my girlfriend
too, instead of using same old sample CDs)
Yamaha self powered speakers

[Used]
Virus a
Jomox Xbase 09

I never would have bought all this gear if I didn't sell my domain name. I
got lucky! So I figured I should invest the money into my equipment now
while I have the cash instead of building up a huge credit card bill.
Anyway, my point of all this is that I can at least sequence a "song" on my
RM1x, tweak it, edit it, and my RM1x is stable and reliable. If I get Logic
(or Cubase for that matter), I don't want to be tied up for months trying to
learn the software when I could do just as well with my RM1x. At the same
time, I see Nine Inch Nails and Pet Shop Boys using Logic in the studio and
in their live performances, so I feel like I'm missing out. Also, Akai is
typically the "industry standard" hardware sequencer, but the RM1x has such
a nice display and is really geared towards the dance scene. So, I guess it
makes the most sense. I dunno, I'm just a confused boy I guess! :-)
Seriously, I'm sure Logic is totally awesome, and it's not like I need to
"un-learn" Cakewalk or Cubase, because I never REALLY learned them to begin
with. I have an HP Vectra Vi8 PIII/550, 128MB computer that would be
perfect. I also have an HP Laptop PII/400, 64MB, that would make a nice
portable Logic Sequencer.

Regards,
Mark
