Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply. I should have realised that the firmware is
loaded at boot, since there are firmware files. I don't know why I
didn't suss that - I can be a bit thick sometimes...

I can't argue with that, though my Hx4700 was even more slow than
normal, to the point that it was almost unusable, which makes me wonder
whether there are any non-volatile bits of the ACX100 that can be
written to, causing this sort of effect. As you say though, it might
have been a more general hardware failure. I noticed that the backup
battery would run out very fast after the main battery was disconnected.

That could be a possibility with my unit, though I tended not to use it
for very long periods. I may have done one or twice though (okay,
perhaps more than twice!) but I rarely loaded the CPU much. I think
about all I did was play Infocom games on Frotz, via ssh.

BUT.. mine's got WinCE on it now! (shock!)

I think I might try Ramdisk Rescue since it doesn't require flashing.
Deep down though, I'll always be a Linux guy, which is why I hardly used
the iPAQ when it had Windows on it, so I'll be using Linux again.
Besides, I can't stop meddling (perhaps that was what really did it?).

Cheers,

Lex
