That's a result of our poor communication since July...

Bumblebee from MrMEEE has been replaced by two projects : IronHide by MrMEEE and Bumblebee from The Bumblebee Project (TBP), which was at this time Lekensteyn, Samsagax and myself.

MrMEEE apparently stopped development on IronHide since end October, and didn't show up at all since (except a brief apparition in late November). So, I (and other people too) are considering he stopped development and support for IronHide. We're going to contact him on this point on some other things.

On our side (TBP), if the development was slow those last two months, thanks to our new developer Thulinma, second part of december was really productive, and we're finishing a new 3.0 version of Bumblebee, fully rewritten in C with awesome features. And there would most probably be a Precise version for users already testing or working on 12.04.

So, use Bumblebee, but as there isn't a Precise version right now, just wait for 3.0. We will announce it here and in several other places when it would be ready, and we will provide a README changelog together with a full detailed changelog at this time.

Hi,

IronHide looks to be not supported anymore by MrMEEE. And there isn't a Precise Pangolin TBP/Bumblebee package right now either. But as Launchpad supports it, we will add it to the next release, 3.0 one.

About having it at start, you may put the needed line in the rc script (normally /etc/rc.local).

Normally, if you use the acpi_call package (either IronHide or TBP one), it's using DKMS so that it is built for new kernel you use, as nvidia is for example. So, as soon as there will be a package for Precise, that should be OK. But that will probably not happen, as acpi_call won't be a part of Bumblebee as 3.0 will roll in, but that doesn't matter, it will be replaced by bbswitch. We will announce it when it would be ready, and explain all the changes.

But we're probably not going to build a 2.4 Precise version, so you will have to wait a little more on the TBP side.

I would like to test the latest support for graphics switching and shutting off the NVidia chip on my ASUS UL50VT.  I can already shut off the NVidia chip with acpi_call.ko and test_off.sh:
[ 4981.914398] acpi_call: Module loaded successfully
[ 4987.040224] acpi_call: Calling \_SB.PCI0.P0P1.VGA._OFF
[ 4987.146929] acpi_call: Call successful: 0x0
But, I would like to have it occur automatically when I boot.  Also, ideally acpi_call.ko would get built whenever I build my own kernel and install its modules.
