I can't reproduce this.  I've tried no arguments, with drivers 
jack/oss/alsa/null, with svn HEAD, with a local version of jackMidi, with jackd 
running, with jackd not running... I can't get it to segfault.

I haven't seen this before.  How did you get VST support?  (Just curious)
