FYI, there appears to be a bug in the KDE3 version of poxml.[1] The GIMP
ran into this problem some time ago and worked around it by using a
patched version of xml2po.[2] Using their patched version does not solve
the issue for me... and I'm not sure why.
However, their current code uses xml2pot (the KDE4 version of poxml). So,
I'm in the process of adding Debian testing (squeeze) to my system to see
if that fixes things for me.

[1] Some sections of the document get evaluated as "<placeholder-1/>"
in the msgid field. When merging translations, "<placeholder-1/>"
never matches anything... and so no substitution takes place.
