The plan was to finish 1.0 before working on 2.0. There are some features of 1.0 that essentially lay the groundwork for 2.0 the things in 2.0. The manual REBALANCE command will put in place all of the features necessary to do automatic rebalancing. If you think there are some 2.0 features that could be put in place before then and would like to do an implementation, we can easily create a 2.0 branch for you to work in.
