I was able to reproduce the problem and have come up with a fix which you
can find in the following package:

http://www.hypertable.com/pub/hypertable-0.9.7.14.6a57db0-linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

Please give this one a try and report back, letting us know if it does
indeed fix the problem.  Thanks!
