>>>1991 Motorola earned 86 cents per share >In 1995 earned 3.20 that is a 272% increase >I keep getting 372%<< > >3.20 - .86 = 2.34 >2.34 / .86 = 2.72 x 100 = 272% > >>>1991 share 17.8 in 1995 82.1 a 361% increase >I get 461%<< > >82.1 - 17.8 = 64.3 >64.3 / 17.8 = 3.61 x 100 - 361%
Don't forget a second method of figuring return. Using Motorola's figures, it would be: 1995: ((3.20/.86) - 1) x 100 = ((3.72 - 1) x 100 = 2.72 x 100 = 272% 1991: ((82.1/17.8) - 1) x 100 = ((4.61 - 1) x 100 = 3.61 x 100 = 361% These look a little more complicated, but subtracting one and multiplying by 100 are things most people can do in their heads. For me it is the simpler method. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you. Bruce
