AgroForesTree database (Temporary)
Period: Six months, from July 01, 2001-December 31, 2001
Applications are considered until 1 July 2001.
Background and Objectives
ICRAF's AFTree database, freely available on the web, provides a
user-friendly framework for information retrieval on botanical and
ecological properties and uses many tropical trees, but it is largely based
on African literature and experience. Much information on SE Asian trees
exists in other formats, including several volumes of PROSEA. The objectives
of this activity are to make such information accessible via the AFTree
database format
For this activity, The International Centre for Research in Agroforestry
(ICRAF) is recruiting two of young foresters/biologists to its Regional
Research Programme, in Bogor, Indonesia.
Qualifications
* Relevant formal education
* can extract published information on tree properties and enter the
various fields of the AFTreebase,
* have basic knowledge of the properties of tropical trees and the
agroforestry systems in which they can be used,
* have experience in the use of computer databases,
* sufficient command of the English language,
* Self-motivated, independent, flexible and able to work in a team
* Good computer skills, using word processing, spreadsheets and
database programmes (Word, Excel, Access);
