Due to an increased rate of submissions, Symantec Security Response has upgraded
this threat from a Category 2 to a Category 3.
Details about this virus:
"A virus called Sobig is spreading across the Internet. It can arrive as an
email with an attached file. The attached file could be named anything, but its
name will end with the characters, ".zip." Sobig is able to lie about who sent
it, so even an emailed .zip file that has a friend's or co-worker's name in the
From: field could be the virus. Do not open any emailed .zip file until you have
spoken to the person who allegedly sent it, and verified that the file contains
data you need to conduct this organization's business."
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a mass-mailing worm that sends itself to all the email
addresses that it finds in files with the following extensions:
.wab
.dbx
.htm
.html
.eml
.txt
The email falsely purports that Yahoo sent it ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

The email message has the following characteristics:
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (NOTE: [EMAIL PROTECTED] spoofs this field. It could be
any address.)
Subject: The subject line will be one of the following:
