Replace "Communication" and "Literacy" with "Writing" and "Reading" and you'd have a list I'd vote for. Remember that Activities can go into up to three Categories, so Categories don't have to be so broad that every Activity has only one.

If you look at Firefox Add-ons:

The latest version of the software supports "Collections" which is a perfect place to put stuff like "Sucrose", "Fructose", and the like. It also shows numbers like I wanted, both by Category and at the top they have "*1,455,889,902* add-ons downloaded, *162,086,241* add-ons in use". Our numbers will be less impressive, of course.
