"Using binaries" is not what needs to be done. "Rewriting each activity" (that you want to speed up) is what you're saying needs to be done. Interpreted languages are more efficient at using porting resources when the binary formats change, and more efficient in how they use developer resources. Python is at the top of the list of languages/platforms that meet the Educational and Technical goals on http://www.sugarlabs.org/index.php?template=page&page=contributors . It's one of the best languages for the "low floor, high ceiling" goal. And in many areas it's becoming more and more common in the workplace[1], so it's hardly a niche language any more. If you want to rewrite the applications in C or Lua or something, I don't think anybody's going to stop you.
