Yes, I definitely do have some questions for the teacher piloting SugarizerOS in Peru. Here are a few for starters: 1) What hardware is he using? 2) Are the children using SugarizerOS and on what hardware? 3) What other hardware has he tried it on? 4) What (if any) issues has he encountered in installing SugarizerOS? 5) What (if any) issues has he encountered while using SugarizerOS? 6) Which Activities is he using with the students? 7) Is he using any Activities that are not a part of the original Sugar (that is native on the XO)? 8) How is he using the Activities: * a) Introduction of a subject? * b) Exploring a subject? * c) Drill and practice (e.g. the Memorize game) * d) Creative learning… if so, which Activities * e) Teaching concepts (e.g. clock) * f) As a tool in other subjects (e.g. Calculator, Stopwatch, Record) * g) Play (eg Maze) 9) What Sugar Activities that are in the original Sugar but not in the SugarizerOS would he like to see added? 10) What Activities in SugarizerOS does he feel are the most useful? 11) Are there any Activities in SugarizerOS that he would like to see left out? I'm happy to report that the SomosAzucar team is getting reports of first local testers in Perú for the resent release Lionel's team made of the SugarizerOS. The user case is from a primary teacher with experience in training other teachers to the use of Sugar in an innovation classroom. Sugarizer is not my tool, or the tool of OLPC France. Everyone should be able to appropriate Sugarizer itself and transform/adapt it for its needs. However, I am re-submitting it mainly as an example of the kinds of things I feel SugarLabs should be supporting with their precious funds. I originally submitted it last summer. Because of the SoCalifLinuxExpo and a house full of people, I don't have the opportunity to make revisions at this moment. Things I can see it needs are a definite timeline, a clearly thought out budget, and names of some of the people who would be involved. I would love to have additional suggestions for things to add and volunteers to assist in getting it into better shape by the next SLOB meeting. At this point, I do not expect approval, but rather encouragement to expand and refine this early proposal, along with suggestions in time for the next SLOB meeting. I invite others (Samson???) to also submit rough drafts of proposals as samples of the kinds of things SugarLabs could be doing. The SLOB meeting tomorrow is at 11 AM PST. The Expo Hall at SCaLE15X opens at 10 AM. Because of that it will be difficult for me, Adam, and other SL members to give our full attention to the meeting.
