Fresh quake shakes Papua JAKARTA POST (Agencies): An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale shook Indonesia's Papua province on Friday, causing damage to buildings, but there were no immediate reports of casualties, an official said. "Several buildings were damaged, but so far no reports of casualties " Fauzi, an official from the National Earthquake Center, told Reuters. The quake hit at 01:52 a.m. (0456 GMT) and was centered 33 kilometers (around 20 miles) underground, said Lukito of the meteorology office here. The epicenter of the quake was approximately 70 kilometers south of the town of Nabire and the tremor was mostly felt by residents there, according to AFP. It was the second powerful earthquake to jolt the Indonesian archipelago within two weeks. On Nov. 12, an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the eastern Indonesian island of Alor, killing at least 33 people and injuring more than 100 others, while hundreds of buildings collapsed or were heavily damaged.
