*Abstract***

Pitfalls in Acoustic Logging strives to give audience members a visual sense
of sonic log processing problems based on primarily looking at the processed
curves DTP and DTS; since this is often all that is available to the
analyst. The goal is to create pattern recognition among the participants of
some common processing problems (mode contamination due to Stoneley mode,
unintended modes, cement arrivals, casing rings, etc.). In addition, some
other relevant acoustic log pitfalls are illustrated and discussed. The talk
is designed to last 30 minutes and covers primarily wireline acoustic logs.

 *Biography***

Jefferson Williams possesses Bachelor's degrees in Geology and Mechanical
Engineering as well as Master's Degrees in Electrical and Civil Engineering.
He started his career as a Seismologist for Geophysical Services Inc. and
later became a Field Engineer for Gearhart Industries. This included a 3
year assignment in Indonesia. Eventually, he joined MPI where he was a Field
and Maintenance Engineer as well as a Log Analyst specializing in acoustic
logs. After consulting in acoustic logs for a number of years, he co-founded
SuperSonic Geophysical in 2001.

He is a member of SPWLA, SEG, and AAPG.
