> Dear Council Members,
I wonder whether IASC could entertain an IASC Membership Registration Desk ============================ during some of the COMPSTAT 2002 days in Berlin where representatives of IASC promote the Society for new members. Present and past officers of IASC could e.g. during breaks be present and inform participants about IASC membership. The place ot locate that should be very visible and it should be near the Elsevier booth. The latter is for three reasons a) that would be the place where CSDA copies are b) Elsevier informed me that "We will print 200 T-shirts with Mathematicsweb on one side and the Mathematics preprint server on the other side. We can hand out those T-shirts to new IASC subscribers during the Compstat meeting in Berlin." c) to have someone permanently have a look at this place. As I understand, it would be at first up to Wolfgang as COMPSTAT organizer to agree with this and to care for the necessary equipment. The second task would then to organize a schedule of presences of IASC Officers at that place. If someone form the conference could send us a type of schedule of the breaks we could send this in IASC Council araund and ask for subscription to serve the desk. The fact the IASC needs membership promotion is obvious. By this time 408 persons are active members in the sense of receiving CSDA by this time of the year ( that means they have paid and ISI has forwarded the labels.). Best regrads LUTZ
