            The Challenges of a Changing World:
            Developments in the Survey Process

            5TH ASC International Conference.
                  12-14 September 2007.
            University of Southampton, England

          CALL FOR CONTRIBUTED PAPERS - REMINDER

The landscape in which research technology is being used today has changed rapidly since our previous international conference in 2003. Survey and statistical software is not only evolving in response to the challenges of a more complex world, but is increasingly an agent of change, providing new opportunities for research and driving innovation in survey-based practices.

We aim to capture the essence of these developments and promote knowledge and understanding in this sphere by seeking imaginative proposals for papers for our next international conference, 12-14 September 2007, at the University of Southampton in England.

Contributed papers will be organised by theme into several parallel streams across the event.

There will be keynote addresses from our invited speakers:

* KAREN DUNNELL. UK National Statistician

* Professor DENISE LIEVESLEY. CEO of the UK’s Information Centre for Health and Social Care

* MICK COUPER. Senior Associate Research Scientist at the Institute for Social Research and Adjunct Associate Professor for the Department of Sociology.

* MALCOLM RIGG. Director of the Policy Studies Institute.

In addition, the conference will include poster sessions, discussion forums, an exhibition, featuring innovative technology and solutions, and an enjoyable social programme.

All full papers, which will be subject to peer review, will be published in the Conference Proceedings in book form.

THEMES and TOPICS

The main conference title is deliberately non-specific as we are interested contributions addressing developments or changes in all areas of Survey Research. These may be developments in thinking, in practice or in the challenges of developing, implementing and evaluating new or evolving software or technology-based methodologies. We encourage contributions that identify informative failures or omissions as well as qualified or outright improvements.

So there are opportunities for papers to explore a wide range of topics.
Some suggested examples are:

* Managing Change / Avoiding Disaster
* Reporting and presentation of analysis, results and reports
* Mobile / Mixed Mode Interviewing
* Analysis requirements and expectations
* Online Panels – their use and management
* Developments for web based CATI
* Sample sourcing and management
* Responses to the challenges and opportunities of Web 2.0
* Developments in graphics/video etc for research purposes
* Developments in survey automation / integration
* Integrating research data with data from other sources
* Census developments
* Ethnicity issues
* Researching in global markets
* Internationalisation
* Software licensing, intellectual property, copyright protection
* Data Protection and Security
* Qualitative research
* Text processing, coding and automated classification
* Developments in language translations and comprehension
* etc ...

We welcome contributions which address one or more of the above suggested topics or on other related subjects.

We are also considering short papers (5 minutes) to serve as the basis for discussion forums.
