We are running z/OS 1.2 and DB2 V7 and are looking at implementing
unicode. Looking in the POO, there are 3 levels of hardware
instructions associated with unicode called z/Architecture Extended
Translation Facility, z/Architecture
Extended Translation Facility 2 and z/Architecture Extended
Translation Facility 3.

The POO says that if neither of the first 2 levels are implemented in
the hardware, then z/OS will simulate those instructions. However it
doesn't say what happens if the first 2 levels are implemented in your
hardware but the 3 level isn't. Can someone confirm that those
instructions associated with the 3rd level will be simulated by z/OS
if they are not there.

The reason for asking is that we have a Flex-ES machine and it
apparently implements the first 2 levels, but not the 3rd.
