I can recommend quite honestly that if any of you get a chance to do the SMPE course at IBM, especially if you know very little about SMPE, then do it... it's a good lead in, and then do three things.. in sequence.. 1/ Practice (play) 2/ Practice (play) and most importantly 3/ Practice (play)
It really is straight forward once you wrap your head around it. Just my opinion and not trying to put stuff on anyone.. good luck and no..I don't work for IBM!!
