Pat, Get Hercules and play at home. :-)
Congrats on a great career! Your presence will be missed here!!! Bob --------------------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Patrick O'Keefe Sent: Sunday, September 20, 2009 3:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: OT - End of a personal era On Sept 25 my current employment ends, and since I'm not planning to look for another job, about 37 years of a system programming career ends with it. Although the last 20 of those years have been more support / administration / configuration of MVS communication-related software than any real system programming I still claim the title, and IBM-Main has helped my maintain that fiction. I discovered IBM-Main pretty late in my career (10-12 years ago maybe?) but since then it has been a constant source of both information and entertainment. IBM-Main is unusual among the online technical discussion venues in that it has a real sense of community. While this has resulted in many non-technical threads that have given Darren heartburn it also has added context to postings, making otherwise obscure comments understandable. I'd hate to think of that ever changing. I've decided I'll drop off the list in a week or 2 rather than hear more about all the neat new features of software and hardware that I will never see. (I'm already feeling obsolete by being stuck on z/OS 1.8 while others talk about 1.10, etc.) Should I forget this decision and start posting again feel free to remind me I have nothing useful to add. :-) Exception: I will probably hop back on the list late Feb to find out who's going to be at SHARE in Seattle. During SHARE I'll probably be wandering the halls - sans badge - snubbing people. Thanks and good-bye. Pat O'Keefe P.S. A slightly early "Another one bites the dust". By the end of this year all mainframe processing of the former Washington Mutual Bank will have been transferred to JPMorgan Chase or eliminated. What a year ago was one of the largest MVS shops in the Pacific Northwest will power off its processors and cease to exist. I'm glad I won't be there to see that final Z EOD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
