Except for one OS: Linux. From what I understand, IBM does not have a Linux
distribution. It recommends either Novell (SUSE) or RedHat. But there are
other, free, distributions for the z, such as CentOS. Of course, Linux on the z
does not support all of the hardware (such as tape libraries, especially) that
are supported by z/OS, z/VSE, and z/VM.
Linux support much more hardware, 3-rd party, FCP-attached.
BTW: what is z/Hardware marketshare in Linux pie ? <vbg>
How many mainframe shops run Linux as the only OS ?
