As you feared, after excluding the .INDEX and .DATA components the cluster component still sorts far away from its correct creation date.
I had suspected the reason is that no creation date is available for the cluster component, but experiment shows that's not true. Typing 'I' in the DSLIST display, then "History" shows the correct creation date. It's just a bug; low quality implementation. Can the EXCLUDE pattern be anchored, effective only at the beginning of the DSNAME, or only at the end?
