Yes to both.

We found the problem. Sort of. We use BMC's Data Accelerator to compress files. 
The file being read in this case was a copy of a compressed file. Our copy 
program, FAVER, does not use VSAM LRM and so bypasses Data Accelerator during 
the dump. When restored, the file data is still compressed. The file in 
question did not show up in the Data Accelerator list of managed datasets. And 
has not in the reports for the last 5 days. But __somehow__ it does show up 
now! I am at loss since everybody disclaims making any changes in the interim.

This really sucks.
