Thanks Sam That's more or less what we were saying but the customer is quite adamant that they have no command-line switches on their FTP process (we haven't seen it, so have no idea).
It also, as our third-party software's vendor pointed out, does not explain why we didn't see this command/behaviour on our OS/390 2.9 before the upgrade to z/OS 1.4..
