Worse yet, many commands/utilities accept a DDNAME, but deliberately
check control blocks and needlessly prohibit UNIX files. (I have a
list.)

Or FTP, which accepts a DDNAME and apparently doesn't use it. It
(apparently) allocates its own DD and gets it wrong. I have an
example PUTting from a mixed concatenation of legacy and UNIX
files. Works with IEBGENER SYSUT1; gives incorrect (different)
results with FTP PUT.
