(Other than using NEL where every UNIX otherwise uses LF? This requires a misbehavior of iconv which is documented only (sometimes) in a footnote in a manual. And the opposite misbehavior of dd, which I tried to PMR, but IBM said it was a POSIX requirement because the POSIX spec of dd is in terms of hex codes rather than escape sequences.)
Alas, there seems to be no practical way to code EDIT macros in sed, awk, perl, or sh. Can a Rexx macro use the LE functions that Steve mentioned. I have an EDIT macro that pipes the content of the file to a UNIX (shell) command. I use it less than I expected when I coded it. -- gil ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
