Hercules / MVS 3.8 would provide 90% of the training you need.
Everything you learn would be applicable to z/OS.
IMHO not. The system has changed singificantly over last 30 years.
"Concepts" are fine, but real work with z/OS requires those things which
arrived after 3.8, these are not optional bells and whistles.
BTW: I suspect that it's a kind of euphemism/inhonest with all those
Hercules+zLinux, Hercules+MVS 3.8, etc.
The king is naked: People use Hercules for z/OS! Even IBMers.
Is it illegal? That's why they don't say it loud.
Disclaimer: the above does not mean "every user of Hercules", but at
least "some users".
Disclaimer2: I DON'T use it. Main reason: I have unlimited access to
real mainframe with sandbox LPAR. I see no reason to bother with emulator.
