This confusion - for you and all these folk recently starting work with z/OS - would be entirely avoidable[1] if the officially approved abbreviation for anything to do with z/OS UNIX System Services were universally used, namely z/OS UNIX. - [1] There's a "hard core" of people who subscribe to IBM-MAIN who insist on the misuse although they do - it's not a question of "should" - know better.
