This REXX was just a test to confirm the behaviour.  My problem started when I 
was running some other programs (REXX) that displayed (partly for debugging 
reasons) these characters.

Well, as Sam Knutson could get it working with Vista but not PCOM I think You 
are right. AFAICS, TSO should normally translate these characters to dot's 
(colons ?) before sending them to the screen. Does anybody know where/how IBM's 
default translation table is defined/connected to the session ?

As my mother language is Swedish I'm sure I sometimes have a funny usage of 
english words. I hope I haven't used any too inapropriate words... :)

That is certainly a way.  But I suspect that the error is on a "higher" level, 
thats is: I seem to not use any translation table at all !?
