Hey Liz, A UPS failure in my way of thinking can definitely cause and issue with hardware, you have no way of knowing what event or process was effected, so i would start looking for symptoms, the message you described sounds general. Is there any way to 'validate' that CA-VTAPE is working correctly ?

The devices that this message relates to is for TAPE. The Tape is CA-VTAPE (Virtual) so it is on dasd. And when I looked at the drives they were F-BOX. I would have thought a UNIT OFFLINE NEEDED message rather than this IEF391I message.
