The comment of a directory page of a PDSE containing member data does not really make sense.
Regardless of it's 'official' block size (stored in the disk label), FAMS manages 4K pages for a PDSE. Level 2 found a page that was supposed to contain directory/index information contained member data instead--implying a broken link or storage overlay in the PDSE structure. Detecting this condition after-the-fact is what triggered the 0F4-24. Most of these abends are detected during HSM backup processing.
Forgive me ... I'm not quite sure what you mean by larger than PDS's...
PDS cannot be larger than 64K tracks. PDSE has no such restriction.
Again, what is your SMS configuration, what software was (or is) being used that is or might be causing the corruption ??.
We are using the high level assembler (HLASM) to update to these PDSEs.
As you well know, looking at dumps is not going to help unless there is an awareness of the environment.
I solve problems looking at dumps all the time and I have no idea whatsoever (nor do I care) what's going on or what other software is installed/executing in the customer's environment. Code is code; a dump is a dump; a trace is a trace. So long as you have a source listing, you can diagnose almost any error on z/OS using post-mortem analysis tools whose roots can be traced back for decades. That's one of the great strengths of our platform.
In this case, the IBM code is OCO so there is not much I can do to help other than forward dumps that appear to be slightly different from those I've already sent.
As I said, IBM is implementing code to try to catch PDSE logic errors when they occur, rather than abending after-the-fact detecting an already-broken PDSE. This should help get to the bottom of these issues.
